Confederate History and Heritage Month

April 2013
 

Whereas:           Our country is a nation of people united by a common history, unique heritage and diverse cultures and Houston County is rich in history of the War Between the States; and,

 
Whereas:           Augustine Warner Robins, for whom the city was named, was the son of Confederate hero William Todd Robins, who rose from a private in the Virginia 9th Cavalry to Commander of the Virginia 24th Cavalry regiment during the war. The Robins family was related to George Washington, Thomas Nelson, the hero of Yorktown, and Robert E. Lee, and
 
 
Whereas:           The State of Georgia has long cherished her Confederate history and recognized all people who made sacrifices on behalf of the Confederate cause for independence including local names like Cliett, Watson, Vinson, Lane, Gunn, Corder, Bateman and Wellborn to list a few. Confederate Memorial Day has been observed in Houston County for many years; and,
 
Whereas:           The month of April bears special significance since it marks both the beginning and the ending of the War Between the States.
 
NOW THEREFORE, I, CHARLES K. SHAHEEN, III, Mayor of the city of Warner Robins, Georgia do hereby proclaim April 2013 as "CONFEDERATE HISTORY AND HERITAGE MONTH" in Warner Robins, Georgia.
 
In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Warner Robins to be affixed. This 1st day of April 2013
