Wilson, James L. -- Private - June 15, 1861. Appointed 4th Sergeant July 21, 1862. Wounded at Sharpsburg, Maryland September 17, 1862; Winchester, Virginia September 19, 1864. In Lynchburg, Virginia hospital, wounded, close of war.

Wilson, William E. -- Private - June 15, 1861. Discharged, overage, July 2, 1862.

Winchel, William H. -- Private - June 15, 1861. Wounded at Cedar Run, Virginia August 9, 1862. Wounded in arm and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania July 3, 1863. Died, result amputation of arm, in hospital there July 8, 1863.

Young, Robert -- Appointed 3rd Sergeant of Company C, 2nd Battalion Georgia State Troops December 5, 1861. Mustered out May 1862. Enlisted as a private in Company G, 12th Regiment Georgia Infantry May 14, 1862. Wounded at Malvern Hill, Virginia July 1, 1862; Chancellorsville, Virginia May 3, 1863; Summit Point, Virginia August 21, 1864. Captured at Petersburg, Virginia April 2, 1865. Released at Point Lookout, Maryland June 22, 1865.

Zachry, Abner Rowan -- 1st Corporal - June 15, 1861. Wounded at Alleghany, Virginia December 13, 1861. Elected Jr. 2nd Lieutenant August 7, 1862; 1st Lieutenant April 16, 1863; Captain April 21, 1864. Wounded and captured at Fort Stevens, near Washington, D. C., July 12, 1864. Released at Fort Delaware, Delaware June 17, 1865.


12th Infantry Regiment completed its organization in June, 1861, at Richmond, Virginia. Its members were from the counties of Sumter, Jones, Macon, Calhoun, Muscogee, Dooly, Putnam, Bibb, Lowndes, and Marion. Moving to Western Virginia, the unit was assigned to H.R. Jackson's command and shared in Lee's Cheat Mountain Campaign. Later it served in General E. Johnson's, Elzey's, Trimble's, Doles', and Cook's Brigade. The 12th participated in Jackson's Valley Campaign, then fought with the Army of Northern Virginia form the Seven Days' Battles to Cold Harbor. Later it participated in Early's Shenandoah Valley operations and the Appomattox Campaign. This regiment lost 175 at McDowell, 45 at Groveton, and 59 at Sharpsburg. Its casualties were 12 killed and 58 wounded at Chancellorsville and sixteen percent of the 327 engaged at Gettysburg. Only 5 officers and 60 men surrendered in April, 1865. The field officers were Colonels Z.T. Conner, Edward Johnson, and Edward Willis; Lieutenant Colonels Mark H. Blanford, Isaac Hardeman, Willis A. Hawkins, T.B. Scott, and Abner Smead; and Major John T. Carson.
